A Princess in her Chariot
So, as I was saying a little while ago, the Princess of Vix had been laid out on a wagon in her burial chamber, or tomb if you prefer… Well this is the reconstitution of that wagon ! It occupied the center of the burial chamber. The wheels had been removed and left leaning against the walls.
Producing this replica of the wagon was no piece of cake, I can tell you ! Particularly when it came to making the wheels round ! You see they were cut from a single block of wood and the wood had to be softened first by soaking it in hot water ; then they had to wrap an iron band around each so that it would permanently keep its circular shape as it cooled. Personally, I always find truly admirable this sort of ingenuity !! Don't you ?!
Oh, but, hey ! I just remembered, I still haven't told you who this Princess really was ! Right, then, so now, brace yourself as I reveal to you her true identity… ! Well, I mean, as far as we know since well, we don't actually have any written information about her but... Scientific research was carried out on parts of her skeleton and so we DO know that she was around 40 years old at the time of her death and that, unfortunately, she suffered from a few diseases and bone malformations and that she was most probably somewhat handicapped…
But ! Nonetheless ! Given the extraordinary wealth of precious treasures found in her tomb, she must have been an extremely important figure in her time !
