Zenkov Street

The street is named in honor the famous Soviet architect Andrey Pavlovich Zenkov. Andrey was born in 1863 in the family of the architect Pavel Zenkov. And in 1867 the family moved to Almaty, where his father has become one of the developers of the first construction plan. The fate of the son also was closely connected with this city.
Zenkov was one of the founders of Earthquake Engineering. The buildings built by him, including Ascension Cathedral, withstood the strongest earthquake in 1911. During the Soviet period, Andrey was the head of the Building Control department and participated in building of the administrative center of Almaty. He was buried at the central cemetery of the city.
