Half way to Tsarkyoe Selo, Catherine II ordered a palace to be built. The site was marshy and was called Kekerekeksinen, or as Catherine and the court called it «La Grenouillère» - frog swamp. For this palace, the Empress commissioned a dinner and dessert service from the famous master Wedgwood, decorated with images of his homeland and the coat of arms displaying the Green Frog. Due to this coat of arms, the service is named ‘The Green Frog Service’.
