Its origin is to be found in Prehistory, when about 700,000 years ago man settled in the eastern area of the city. Isernia, in ancient times was also a flourishing Samnite city, capital of the Italic League and later Roman Municipium. In the 19th century, after the unification of Italy, it was a place of Bourbon anti-unification reaction. For the bombing suffered during the Second World War, Isernia was awarded the gold medal for civil valor. Destroyed but always rebuilt, Isernia is defined as a resilient city!
Every corner of the city traces parts of its history.
