Jardin Exotique de Monaco
This cliffside botanical garden was opened in 1933 and is one of Monaco’s most picturesque spots. The garden is a haven for exotic and rare plants and is particularly dedicated to collecting the group of plants known as ‘succulents.’ This is a type of plant that has adapted to dry climates in some way or other, for example cacti. The plants here come from far and wide – Eastern Arabia and Mexico to mention just two of the origin locations – and most flower throughout the year, resulting in a colourful and enticing display for visitors. The garden is quite large and there is a lot to explore – in particular, be sure not to miss the underground cathedral, the giant flowering succulents, ‘Cereus Alley’ and the various panoramic lookout points located around the garden.
In addition to the gardens to wander through, here you will also find the museum of Prehistoric Anthropology. This charts the main steps in the evolution of man and also records a number of now extinct flora and animals, as well as the main industries of man throughout the ages. In addition, you can explore the Rainier III Room , which is focused on the locality of Monaco and its prehistory, providing a unique insight into the heritage of the nature of the French Riviera.
With a single entry ticket you can explore all of the Exotic Garden, the Observatory Cave and the Prehistoric Anthropology Museum. Tickets cost 7.20 Euros for adults, 3.80 Euros for children (6-18) and concessions and 5.50 for seniors (65+). The garden is open almost all year round from 9am, closing at 6pm in the summer and 5pm in the winter. It is shut on Christmas Day and Monaco’s National Fete Day on 19th December.
