Tur audio 1. Period Prior to the First World War

The inhabitants of the historical lands of Carniola, Styria, Carinthia, Gorizia-Gradisca and Istria lived under the wings of the Habsburg Monarchy. The monarchy, with its capital in Vienna, had been called Austria-Hungary since 1867, and was ruled by Emperor and King Francis Joseph I. The assassination of Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo led to an Austro-Hungarian declaration of war against the Kingdom of Serbia and a conflict of global proportions. Soldiers from Slovene recruiting areas were mostly sent to the eastern front in the summer of 1914, with the Third Corps of the Austro-Hungarian Army. There they experienced their baptism of fire.
