EXOSKELETON

An exoskeleton is a robot suit that makes walking possible for people with (partial) paralysis. In some cases it enables people to stand up right that have been bound to a wheelchair. You can walk up to 3 hours with the suit. Currently the cost is high, an exoskeleton can cost up to 180.000 euros. Rather expensive, however the price of these solutions is dropping by popular demand and cheaper technology. Nowadays exoskeletons are also used by workers to lift heavy materials or reduce the strain on lower back and upper legs when much walking and squatting is needed for their work. This new application will eventually lead to cheaper and accessible solutions for everyone. Just like the electric bicycle the exoskeleton could evolve to become mainstream and help elderly people in walking and reduce the number of falls incidents. In time people will no longer need adapted housing a simple walking aid is all they need.

Everyone knows exercise improves the overall health. With a pedometer or activity tracker you can get insight in your daily activity. It’s an easy way to create awareness for your personal health. You can even buy pedometers that play a game. Gaining points by walking or even playing virtual mouse trap games with an app connected to your GPS enabled pedometer. You don’t even have to live in the same city to indulge in this activity promoting game.

DWELLING DETECTION

People with early onset of dementia can get lost or start dwelling. Because of their condition they lose track of where they are resulting in panic. Many informal carers or dementia facilities used to keep the doors locked to keep people from dwelling. Today there are better options that do not reduce the freedom of these people. A GPS watch with (automatic) alarm button enables people to go outside and in case of dwelling be safe. Yo can monitor the whereabouts of loved ones and patients simply by looking at your smartphone.
