Welcome! We’re so glad you’ve chosen to join us for today’s tour:

Dallas: The Highs and Lows of Downtown. We know you’re going to enjoy it.

This tour is brought to you by ListenUp Audio, a leader in spoken word production since 2010. ListenUp provides the voices for walking tours, audiobooks, podcasts, and more. Visit us at www.listenup.audio.And now, on with our tour:

I’m Claire, and I’m going to be your guide. A few notes before we get started. This tour takes approximately an hour to complete. You can stop at any time and start at the same spot later. If you’d like, you can put your phone in your pocket and just listen from here. I’ll be giving you clear directions and the audio will automatically start when you get close to each point of interest. If a site is closed or your path is blocked, don’t worry. Just go around it. The tour will pick up at the next location. And this is important: PLEASE make sure you stay aware of your surroundings at all times and obey all traffic signals.

Welcome to Dallas, home of the 7-Eleven, the microchip, and the long-running self-titled soap opera. The city was founded in the 1840’s, and rose to prominence as an oil and cotton powerhouse. It also benefitted from the many railroads which once ran through it. These days the city prospers as a center for industries including telecommunications, medical research, banking, and the old mainstays of energy and transportation. During this walking tour through downtown, you’ll get a feel for the city center’s long and complex history.

Now let’s get started. You should be standing on Hyatt Regency Hotel Drive in front of the Hyatt Regency Dallas. As soon as you’re ready, let’s begin!
