Some of the most impressive monuments in Sheffield General Cemetery belong to those who made their money from industry in Sheffield, particularly the metal-working industries. However, often unseen are the countless Sheffield men, women and children who worked in these industries, many of whom are also buried on site. Many of those buried came from all over the world and found work in Sheffield industries.  The industrial products people made in Sheffield also had global connections in trade and colonial routes across the world. The stories of all these varied heritage strands are a vital part of the story of Sheffield’s industrial past and show how Sheffield was built by many communities and people over history, which has an important legacy in the city it is today. This trail will show you some of the of these stories.
