Gangai Konda Cholapuram …I am sure you are as curious as we were when we pulled into the parking lot… Why this different sort of name and what is this beautiful temple doing in the middle of nowhere? 

Well, it's not exactly middle of nowhere, but it is in this very small village today.    

Gangai Konda Cholapuram is actually the name of the city that was created from scratch by Rajendra Cholan, and the temple is at the heart of the activities.  What remains now is just this temple.
