О музее

The Huguenot Museum tells the story of Britain's first refugees: the skills they brought to the UK, their descendants, and their relevance to the topic of migration today.

Through the artefacts on display, the galleries cover the persecution of the Huguenots in France, their arrival in England, the skills and trades they brought with them, and the organisations they created. The displays also set the arrival of the Huguenots in the context of the wider history of refugees in Britain.

In addition, the museum  provides a learning space which can be used for a variety of activities; ranging from school visits, to arts and crafts sessions and lectures given by external professionals. There is also a free family history service in the Archive room, and researchers have the opportunity to carry out their own work using the space and computers provided.

The museum was created through the help of donors, and descendants of the Huguenots currently living in the French Hospital down the street. The museum was created for them to tell their story, and to provide much needed context for the public as to why the French Hospital is of such significance..
