Over het museum

The Galleria dell’Accademia is situated on the Campo della Carità, along the Grand Canal. It is open daily from 9am to 7pm, except Monday when it closes at 2pm.

The Accademia is the most famous and most prestigious of Venice’s galleries. Even though it is the city’s largest museum, it remains approachable and the visitor is not overwhelmed by its scale. So, just what are we going to see here?

22 rooms in which you will find sumptuous works from the four great periods of the Venetian school of painting:

• From the 14th century and the first half of the 15th we will see the birth and affirmation of Venetian Gothic painting through the work of Paolo and Lorenzo Veneziano.

(Reader pronounce: Venetsiano)

• From the second half of the 15th century we will explore the emergence of the Renaissance via great artists such as Bellini and Giorgione.

• From the 16th century we will discover the Golden Era of Venetian pictorial art, and its three great masters: Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto.

• And from the 18th century we shall see the last great works of Venetian art: the theatrical religious paintings of Tiepolo, and Canaletto and Guardi’s cityscapes.

information is great! although the museum layout has changed since it was recorded making it hard to locate the pieces the guide covers.
