Audioguida Translating Data and Technology in Contemporary Art

Post internet art comes as a reaction to the rapid change in technology and transformation of data that has occurred over the past 10 years. Artists of this medium have gone beyond using the internet as the source of their work but rather use the technology that is available to them to consider issues surrounding the now. Therefore, works that fall under this category often use digital techniques to create physical work.

Many works which fall under this movement consider the movement and transfer of information in an increasingly transparent world. Works consider the ease of reproduction and thereby the details behind ownership of said work. The work aforementioned uses modes such as GIF, youtube videos, websites and other online formats.

Post-internet art aims to question everything that we assume to be normal in a digitalising world. Works dissect the shared ownership of publicly distributed images and what it means, because of this, to be an artist. Work can be made by a host of different individuals, using the same base images, and each is equally as legitimate. How can this be translated into the art world then?

The works in this exhibition consider how raw data given to us can be translated. The works question what it means to own this raw data and how we can give meaning to it.
