Sommario Auditour
Montereau is located at the confluence of the Yonne and the Seine.
The original village dates back to Gallo-Roman times, but it is the establishment of a small monastery dedicated to Saint-Maurice that gives the town its name. A castle was created at the beginning of the 11th century to control the passage on the waterways. Montereau is at the heart of the Hundred Years War in the conflict between Armagnacs and Burgundians, then marked by the wars of religion. It was during the 18th century that the city specialized in earthenware. The activity lasted until 1955, when Montereau was transformed with the appearance of bars and towers. Normally having to accommodate 45,000 souls, the city finally has barely 17,000. - 1 fresco on recreation
