Audioguida Canova: Innocence and Sin

Mart's exhibition Canova: Innocence and Sin presents a selection of works by this Neoclassical master in dialogue with those of modern and contemporary sculptors and leading 20th century photographers.
Possagno's Gypsotheca has provided original plaster models of some of Antonio Canova's most famous sculptures, portrayed in the enlargements in the first section of the exhibition. 
The artist, heir to the perfection of Greek sculpture, left behind an aesthetic ideal that twentieth-century art has interpreted in different ways, whether upholding or subverting it.
The protagonist of the exhibition is the body, celebrated in its nude form by classical canons and portrayed in modern and contemporary art "between innocence and sin”. This constant fluctuation between these two extremes is also found in Canova's sculptures, where ideal beauty is brought to life by the expression of feelings and emotions.
