Audio tour Castle hotels

The tourist development of castles and other heritage buildings began in the 1960s. According to surveys, there are currently 718 protected castles and 103 forts in Hungary. Of these, 360 offer a tourist experience, of which 90 are also used as castle hotels. Few of these castles, however, are premium accommodation. They are characterised by the presence of restaurants and, in many cases, the organisation of family and cultural events and programmes. There are also other extra services such as sauna, wellness and solarium. In the courtyards of many castle hotels there is a large playground, a tennis court, badminton courts and a mini-zoo. For those castles that are located in a rural setting, there are usually also excursion and horse riding facilities.
Experts see a boom in the popularity of castles in our country in the organisation of themed tours and adventure tourism. The romantic, unique atmosphere, the tranquillity and the historical time travel are very popular with tourists. The biggest problem of castle tourism in Hungary is clearly the combination of services and an exclusive environment.
