Audioguida Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa

Sarmizegetusa is situated in the west of the Haţeg Country, about 8 km from the „Iron Gates of Transylvania”, where switching in Banat.In antiquity Romans built here provincial capital Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica Sarmizegetusa. City walls had a length of about 600 x 500m and locked inside an area of approximately 33 ha. An area of 60-80 ha site outside the city walls, the Romans built numerous public monuments, private houses, tombs, etc.In addition to the actual inhabited area, the city also has a territorium where those who could afford retired in the summer time, there villa rustica, Roman farms such as those in Hobiţa or Sântămărie Orlea, or there minor settlements such as Aquae (Călan Băi) or Germisara (Geoagiu Băi), where it use thermal bath since ancient times. But this territorium extends eastward to the Apuseni Mountains, Ampelum (Zlatna) broke and developed from within Sarmizegetusa and westward, Dierna (Orşova) was divided from capital territory.

Sarmizegetusa is located 17 km from town of Haţeg, on DN 68, a relative good quality road. The position in term of traffic it is not the best. Airports: Timişoara (180 km), Cluj-Napoca (200 km).
