Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the National Museum of Concordia, the oldest state-run archaeological museum in the Veneto region.

The museum was established in the second half of the 19th century through the efforts of Dario Bertolini—a lawyer and amateur archaeologist—and Giuseppe Fiorelli, then head of the General Directorate of Excavations and Monuments. Their goal was to bring together in a single location the artifacts discovered in the ancient Roman colony of Iulia Concordia. The project was entrusted to engineer Antonio Bon, who designed the building in the form of a basilica—a choice evoking the early Christian communities of the ancient city. The foundation stone was laid in 1885, and the museum was inaugurated on October 28, 1888.

Today, the exhibition is arranged across five rooms. The first, known as the basilica, displays stone artifacts and mosaics, partly recreating the museum’s original 19th-century setup. The remaining rooms are dedicated to coins, sculpture, and artifacts made of metal, terracotta, glass, amber, and precious stones. A final section traces the history of Concordia and its territory from the Bronze Age to the Renaissance, through a curated selection of finds from recent excavations.
