The Life Protection Murals along the outer walls of the walkways originated from the conceptions of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. They are the first set of reliefs to be made based on Feng Zikai’s Protection for Living Beings which are accompanied by Master Hongyi’s calligraphy. Among the murals, there are 14 reliefs of Fo Guang Roots of Wisdom words of wisdom. Lining up the walkways, these works make up a 3D story book.
Life protection is a display of compassion and the basic teachings of the Buddha. Two thousand six hundred years ago, Buddha taught the importance of “benefiting all living beings unconditionally, and regarding all living beings as oneself”. Each mural thus emphasizes the sanctity of life.
