In 1945, Slovenes began life in a new state, with a socialist political order and communist rule. The winners promised rapid renovation of the devastated, territorially enlarged homeland, and a nationally and socially fairer political and social order. In the particular circumstances of the Cold War, a more liberal Yugoslav path was created. As one of the founders of the Non-aligned Movement, the country also took its place on the world map. The space on the left is intended to represent the fates of individual groups recognized by the new authorities as actual or potential enemies of the country. During the period of centralization of power, at least until the early 1950s, there were strict controls and police and judicial persecution.
