Here we go. This adventure, which we like to call in the “footsteps” of Ernest Verner, traces the biographical and artistic milestones of the Czech-Swiss painter Werner Sheitlin, who for simplicity's sake called himself Ernest Verner. Verner was born in South Moravia in 1918 and died at the age of 77 in Fasano, where he had come in 1973 to put his lioness “sciù sciù” in the Zoosafasari with whom he cohabited for eight years. This journey, which starts in the Czech town of Znojmo, his birthplace, spans Europe along almost the entire 20th century, and Verner through his art becomes a silent but sensitive witness to historical, economic and environmental changes. His constant travels in search of affirmation as an artist are marked by extravagant anecdotes, contacts with personalities of culture and art, and we will accompany them with images, photos and paintings of the painter. Our journey will end in Fasano where Verner lived his last 25 years in complete solitude and destitution after the death of the lioness. It is here in Fasano, whose municipality had 30 of his works donated by Verner's Brother, that at the end of this journey we will build the Museum that, after eight years, is still not there!
