Annapolis was the capital of the USA long before Washington DC grabbed the glory. This is the maritime town where George Washington, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson lived and worked and drank in saloons well before independence. It's not just a truly historic place but it's home to the US Naval Academy which you can tour. And its seafaring past is very visible today in boat trips, yacht charter and great nautical bars and shanty singing.
