The Museum of Contemporary Illustration (MIC) is located in Grottammare, a charming coastal town nestled in the province of Ascoli Piceno. Housed within a historically significant building that echoes the vibrant fabric of this Marche community’s tourism and social evolution, MIC’s renovated halls now offer a captivating journey through the world of drawings, engravings and prints. Our visitors embark on a curated exploration divided into five thematic sections, each thoughtfully crafted to enrich the experience.
MIC inherits the legacy of its predecessor, a museum that once graced these same halls, albeit with a distinct focus on the comic genre within illustration. Evolving from its origins in the 1990s, where whimsical nods to entertainment celebrities adorned its walls, our collection has since blossomed into a diverse tapestry, enriched by generous donations, acquisitions and loans. Among our treasures, you’ll find works by well-regarded artists such as Milo Manara, Tullio Pericoli, Tanino Liberatore, Bruno Bozzetto, Guido Crepax, Franco Matticchio, Pablo Echaurren, Adolfo De Carolis, Pericle Fazzini, Ale Giorgini, Maicol & Mirco. Noteworthy highlights include a curated selection of prints from Italy’s contemporary illustration scene, containing works by some of the most talented female illustrators. Additionally, a generous donation from Angelo Maria Ricci, one of the artists behind some of Italy’s beloved comic classics, bestowed upon our museum in 2012.

From offering materials in the Italian Sign Language to crafting tactile reproductions of selected artworks, we strive to make the beauty of illustration accessible to every visitor, regardless of their abilities.
