Collector
Since 2022, the Direction générale des affaires culturelles de la Ville de Bordeaux has been organizing a series of exhibitions of contemporary art in public spaces called “Collector”. Based on an idea and initiative by Rodolphe Martinez and Pascale Dewambrechies-Rousseau, these exhibitions showcase works belonging to private collectors in natural spaces in the heart of the city, in public spaces.
Edition 2025
In 2025, “Collector” takes over the Jardin Botanique in Bordeaux, from May 23 to September 21, 2025. The City of Bordeaux's Department of Cultural Affairs commissioned Dominique Haim, collector and former owner of the La Petite Escalère sculpture garden, Mathilde Simian, director of the Fonds de Dotation La Petite Escalère, and art historian and critic Marie-Laure Bernadac to conceive the exhibition project.
The opening of the “Collector” exhibition coincides with the arrival of the work Les femmes au perroquet by Fernand Léger, one of the great figures of modern art. This bronze bas-relief of imposing dimensions has been entrusted to the City of Bordeaux by collector Dominique Haim, for several years, and will be installed in the heart of the Botanical Gardens.
This year, the three curators are offering a selection of sculptures in a wide range of materials and forms, exploring the dialogue between nature and artifice, truth and illusion, echoing the architectural intent of the Botanical Garden and its “reconstituted environments”. The exhibition invites visitors to stroll through the botanical garden, which for a few weeks has become “A Garden of Artifice”.
