Metropolis Exhibition
The Art Space on the Concourse
409 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood
To celebrate the Print Council of Australia’s 50th anniversary in 2016, artists from the Warringah Printmakers Studio, showcased an exhibition with the theme of ‘Metropolis’. It was one of more than 100 exhibitions, competitions, residencies and workshops happening across Australia and internationally,
The theme ‘Metropolis’ is a concept encompassing such diverse ideas as a place to meet, a point of focus, a concourse, a crossroads, market place or a social centre. The word may also inspire images of city architecture, the flow of traffic, plazas, parks and people. Other interpretations of the word to do with communities found in nature have also been explored by the artists.
The exhibition featured recent work from a mix of established and emerging artists who employed a range of printmaking techniques. These included etching, woodblock, linocut, monotype, collagraph, drypoint, solar plate etching and waterless lithography to create contemporary works both on paper and as sculptural forms.
The exhibition ran from the 15th to 26th June 2016.
