In 2017 an estimated 325.000 health related apps were available for download in the app stores. This mind blowing number is rapidly increasing. End of 2018 the number of health apps will exceed 400.000. There are apps for measuring health, improving lifestyle, to motivate people f.e. in smoking cessation, to view medical files, to communicate with health providers, the list of applications goes on and on. Many of the health apps are free of charge or cost as little as the price of a magazine. Due to the large number of people owning a smartphone, much is expected from good healthcare apps.
