The town of Anduze has never lacked for water: an efficient network of basins and pipes collected and distributed water from sources to the various districts of the town.

The Galinière and Duminy sources from St Julien supplied the 7 public fountains with crystal-clear, pure water.

In the early 19th century, the source known as La Fontaine de Madame d'Anduze, located at Le Poulverel, supplied water to four mills for part of the year, and its stream fed La Source de la Figuière, known as the Source du Moulin à Papier, which enabled the Moulin de la Figuière to operate. It is located on the outskirts of Anduze, in the direction of Nîmes.

The "Bombe Robinette", "Fond Fassot" and "Pierres Onches" sources fed a water tank that distributed water to fountains and the Parc des Cordeliers.
Today, the Bombe Robinette spring continues to flow, and a plaque was installed in September 2021.

The Font-Fossot source, at the top of the Alès hill, provided the stagecoach horses with clear, cool water to drink after the effort of the climb.

The Olivier and Grande Pallière streams fed a canal that crossed the Labahou plain, and enabled the operation of a wheat mill and a fulling mill.

Veyrac is a land of running waters, with sources and streams that used to fill basins to power the two mills.

The Peyremale rock has a very deep crevasse, called the baume de Trentenaille, which forms an underground lake, spilling over numerous waterfalls and crevasses during heavy rains.
On the road to Générargues, there used to be a source called "Cantarane", meaning "frogs' song", where the rock has a reddish tint and was used to turn the fulling mill.

Some of these sources are still running, but as soon as heavy rains fall on Anduze, they all reappear.
