Audioguía Hello, Grodno! (I)

Hello, we are in Grodno. This is one of the westernmost cities of Belarus and one of the oldest settlements in the country. The first mentions of the city date back to 1128, but some historians note that Grodno may actually be even a little older, naming 1005 as the supposed date of its foundation. At the moment, there are about 400 historical and cultural heritage sites of Belarus on the territory of the city, and in terms of the total number of attractions, Grodno ranks first in the country. This is the only city in Belarus in which the outlines of the historical center, an architectural monument of the 18th-19th centuries, have been preserved unchanged. In addition, Grodno is one of the most multinational and multicultural cities of the Republic of Belarus. This is largely why the number of Catholics and Orthodox in the city is approximately the same. Grodno is often called a museum city and the most European city in Belarus. Is this really so? Let's check. Our tour will consist of two parts. The first part from the railway station to Sovetskaya Square - one of the main squares in the central part of the city.
