Audioguía 1.1 Archaeological Collections: Room 1

In the showcase 5, on the first shelf, there are two "Venuses": the statuette" A ", modelled with the summary accentuation of some anatomical parts, is characterized by schematic incisions reproducing the face and upper limbs; the statuette" B ", very stylized, it presents the only indication of the buttocks and the abdomen, where perhaps the gender is indicated with an incision. Both "Venuses" are two important products of the plastic of the Paleolithic tradition. On this shelf, a pebble is also exposed, similar to the betiles stone: in the same showcase there are tools and cores of flint, a testimony to this village’s  intense lithic industry production.

In the showcase 6 some terracotta finds are exposed; they were used in the huts of the village of the Pirrone district between the 5th and the 4th millennium BC. The most significant are: a flask vase, decorated with engravings dating back to the 5th millennium BC (culture of Stentinello); a glass, a cup and various spool handles that date back to the fourth millennium BC (culture of Diana).

Other finds, placed on the middle shelf of the showcase, are instead referable to the Eneolithic and Bronze Ages and testify to the survival of this village even in the following ages.

In showcase 7 there are fragments of amphorae, oil lamps, plates and weights that can be assigned to various houses from the Greek and Roman periods.
