This uniform set of yellow houses is the Nyboder district. It was created by Christian IV to house the staff of the Danish navy in the 17th century. The current district dates from 1757. Nowadays, it always houses members of the navy, but it is also open to civilians. The special yellow color of the houses is now a generic term in Denmark, to describe the exact hue of color called Nyboder yellow, although originally the houses were red and white.
