Dinanderie is the art of the beating of copper to make utilities and decorative objects by hammering a leaf of copper or brass. This handwork, originating in Dinant in the 11th century, contributed to the international fame of the city. From the 12th century till the 15th century the city’s wealth kept increasing, just like the wealth of Bouvignes. There were 250 braziers working with 1000 workers. The reputation and quality of this art was so good that there was even a hall in London where the products were sold throughout the whole of England. Dinant is the only city that gave its name to a craft and had a reputation in every corner of Europe throughout the middle Ages.
