This private airplane was manufactured by the Piper Aircraft Inc. in the United States in 1968. It belonged to Orvokki Kuortti, one of the most significant female pilots from Finland. Mrs. Kuortti purchased the aircraft in 1969, after receiving her pilot’s license from a flight school in Helsinki.
Orvokki Kuortti flew a number of notable long-distance flights, for example from England to Australia 1969 and to Canada in 1971. The Piper Cherokee Arrow OH-PJN is the only Finnish private plane to have flown to all five continents. The places the aircraft has visited are marked on its tail.
Mrs. Orvokki Kuortti was the first woman to receive the honorary title of Flight Captain (lentokapteeni) in 1983. The title is bestowed by the President of Finland upon commendable professional or amateur pilots or to persons who are involved in aviation in a professional capacity.
