Tree shrews are small animals like squirrels that live in the tropical rain forests of the south and south-east Asia. They are semi-arboreal. They feed on fruits, leaves, seeds, small vertebrates and insects. They were initially related to the insectivores and later were to the primates. However, recent studies have shown that the Tree shrews are a separate order. Most Tree shrews are diurnal. They make their nests in tree holes filling them with dry leaves. The gestation period is 45-50 days. The female give birth to 1-3 naked blind youngsters. The female leaves the young in the nest and visit them 2 times a day to feed them milk.
