Lady Sewing
1830s.
Oil on canvas.
Vasiliy Andreyevich Tropinin became a famous master of women images by virtue of his famous lace makers series: “The Lace Maker”(1823), “The Gold Embroideress” (1825), “Spades for Firmware” (1930th) and others. The depicted young woman is rather a genre image than a portrait of a certain person. The picture is enriched with still life elements: a pinball, fixed on the table edge, finely painted silver thimble and welts in the hands. The canvas “Spades for Firmware” belonged to the private collection and for a long time was on view at V.A. Tropinin House Museum in Moscow.
