Audio tour Nevada City Chinese Quarter

Join us as we dive into the history of Nevada City. We will be honoring the role of the Chinese who not only shaped this town, but the West as a whole. As we explore the streets, let us pause to reflect and celebrate the strength that diversity brings to our community. Together, we can ensure that the stories of the Chinese remain alive.

This tour will take us in a loop, bringing you back to the main parking lot on Nevada Street. We will walk up Broad (Street), make a loop to the left, and return again to Broad, where we will climb to the top of the hill to Aaron Sargent's historical home. We will then make our way downhill to Commercial Street.

If needed, public restrooms are available at the Commercial Street parking lot, where the Chinese monument is located. A loop off of Commercial to Main will bring us to the Washington Bridge that crosses over the freeway and back to the parking lot. Feel free to take your time. Listen to the tour in small pieces. The important part of this tour is to learn more about the history of the Chinese people who lived in Nevada City. Let's honor their contributions to this beautiful country.

My name is Rose Murphy, and I'm a biographer for the Grass Valley Museum. I am Lisa Redfern. I'm on the board of Sierra College Press. Rose and I are both members of the Nevada County Historical Society and historical fiction authors.

Before starting all of our tours, we recommend downloading it at home first or in a place with good internet. In the Sierra Nevada mountains, Wi-Fi can be hit or miss. With the tour downloaded, you won't miss a thing. All of our walking tours, are geofenced. This means your phone with GPS maps and satellites can track your movements.
