Audio tour Wives, Waffles and Writers: Church and School Streets in Grass Valley

This tour begins and ends in the South Church Street Municipal Parking lot. It is approximately .7 miles long. It's pretty level, but there's a few places with high curbs that you might have to step up and down. It takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Mill Street and into some of our idyllic neighborhoods.

You'll see community gathering places and historic homes, as well as churches, schools and hospital and sanatorium sites.

We have two stops on this tour that we've labeled with Parental Discretion WARNINGS. The Ambulance Evolution and The Grass Valley Sanitarium. These stops contain information about violent accidents and of the handling bodies.

Here's a little bit about your tour hosts and some advanced tour preparation recommendations.

My name is Rose Murphy, and I'm a biographer for the Grass Valley Museum. I am Lisa Redfern. I'm on the board of Sierra College Press. Rose and I, we're both members of the Nevada County Historical Society and historical fiction authors.

Before starting all of our tours, will you recommend downloading it at home first or in a place with good internet. All of our walking tours, our geo-fenced. This means your phone with GPS maps and satellites can track your movements when you're Izi Tour app is open when you walk inside that zone, it should trigger the audio to start playing automatically.

How we provide direction prompts has evolved as we've created more tours. In this tour, we'll give directions here and there, usually at the end of the tour stop narration. If there is a single direction to walk, we'll say something like, "Continue in this direction through stop 17."

There are two other ways to access maps and directions. Inside the Izi app, look for the arrow button. You can see the image section for an example. This will take you to Google Maps where you can use the directions feature. 

Or look at the map section inside the Izi tour. Find the blue dot showing your location and watch which direction it moves as you take a few steps. Orient yourself to go toward the next tour stop showing on the map.

Each tour stop contains an audio file, a transcript, and pictures.
