Barcelona Zoo
Welcome to Barcelona Zoo!
Now we will visit one of the most popular sites among families in Barcelona; the zoo! Ideally located in the city center, this site has attracted many people since it opened in the nineteenth century. At first the zoo only had animals from a private collection, which was donated to the city council, and transferred here from the farm where they lived. Today, this site has one of the largest animal collections in Europe, in total 4,000 animals of 400 species.
So let’s enter without further due, because there is plenty to see and do here! Apart from animals whose natural habitat is the Iberian Peninsula, there are also plenty of tropical animals, such as the tiger you can see over there, or the funny monkeys that are playing over there. Besides mammals there are also reptiles and birds! Look at the pretty and curious snakes and parrots in all kinds of wonderful colors! The zoo used to be home of a very famous animal, the only specimen of its kind ever found: An albino gorilla named Snowflake, who lived here for almost forty years. Today we can see other monkeys and lemurs; they always offer a fun show. Others who are real crowd-pleasers are the dolphins and the sea lions, so let’s go over and see what is happening there today. When we are done visiting all the animals we can ride a pony or play for a bit in the playground of wood and rope. Another thing you cannot miss is going to the petting zoo, where kids are allowed to pet all the cute animals. If you are able to get your kids out there, usually easier said than done, we can go have picnic in the green area, before continuing our journey through this wonderful city.
