Asimon is a fortress that towers over the interior Gate of Ploce. It was buit in the 14th century, when the Dominican Monastery was included within the city walls. In documents from 1318, it was called Ugao (meaning corner), and then from 1438, it was called the fortress of Ploce.
Later it was called Asimon, coming from that latin phrase meaning 'fortress between walls'. Sometimes, like in the gaurd's positions list from 1501 and 1511, it was called Timon.
