This collection of stories crisscrosses the state of Minnesota, the so-called "Land of 10,000 Lakes."

The stories capture local interest in the beauty and health of Minnesota's varied waterways and are part of a nationwide collecting effort to document people's views on water--whether they relate to history, personal experience, conservation, or sustainability. The project has been initiated by the Smithsonian in conjunction with the traveling exhibition "Water/Ways."

The following conversations were recorded by the Minnesota Humanities Center. This content is also included in the "Be Here: Main Street" initiative. "Be Here: Main Street" is a program created by the MuseWeb Foundation, in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), and powered by izi.TRAVEL. #bHereMainSt
