Museum The National Memorial Complex "Summit of Marshal I.S.Konev"

The National Memorial Complex "Summit of Marshal I.S.Konev" is a leading regional military-historical museum of Slobozhanshchyna, located in one of the most picturesque corners of the Kharkiv region - the village of Solonytsivka, Dergachiv district. In this place, at an altitude of 197.3 meters, in August 1943 was the command post of Colonel-General I.S.Konev - Commander of the Steppe Front, Commander of the 53rd Army, Major General Managarov and Commander of the 252nd Rifle division, Major General Anisimov. From here, the troops were operatively led during the fierce battles of the final stage of the Belgorod-Kharkiv offensive operation (August 3-23, 1943).

 In the postwar years, the former command post of the Steppe Front became a venue for mass events on the occasion of Victory Day. On May 9, 1965, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Victory, a solemn rally was held for the first time at an altitude of 197.3 with the participation of the public of Kharkiv region. In 1968, I.S.Konev visited his command post for the last time.

In 1980, according to the project of sculptor D.Sova and architect M.Krasnolobov, an obelisk (h - 18.6 m) with a decorative stele (3x2.3 m) was built on the summit.

In August 2003, the memorial complex was reconstructed according to the project of the Honored Architect of Ukraine Chechelnytsky and Tkachenko. During the project, a chapel of Ivan the Warrior, a retaining wall with memorial plaques, a parking lot, a security room, a reconstruction of the obelisk, a decorative ceiling, the main staircase, access roads and a lighting system were built on the summit.

At the expense of the community of Kharkiv region on the summit of Marshal I.S.Konevthe museumwas built and 23.08.2005 solemnly opened "Kharkiv region during the Second World War 1939-1945", which became a worthy perpetuation of the memory of compatriots who fought and gave their lives on the fronts of World War II and who died during the Nazi occupation of 1941-1943.

The Kharkiv Region Museum in the Second World War of 1939-1945 is the first and only museum institution in the Kharkiv region, the building of which was built according to a special project that meets the conditions of exhibiting and protecting objects of the State Museum Fund of Ukraine. The implementation of modern principles of barrier-free architecture allows people with disabilities to visit the museum freely.

By the Decree of the President of Ukraine on May 14, 2008, the memorial complex was granted the status of a national one.

At the present stage of development, the National Memorial Complex "Summit of Marshal I.S.Konev" is undergoing a transformation from a museum of military history of World War II to a military history museum of Slobozhanshchina during the period of modern history.
