Over het museum

The museum is housed in a wing of the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie , a building designed in 1491 by architect Baccio Pontelli at the behest of Giovanni della Rovere, lord of Senigallia. In 2004 it was named after the distinguished Senigallia intellectual Sergio Anselmi who strongly desired it, organised it scientifically and was able to inaugurate it in 1978. It is one of the most important and complete demoanthropological museums in Italy, with over two thousand objects on display on the building's two floors, themed rooms and photographs from the early 20th century. The exhibition documents the history of sharecropping, the appearance of the agrarian landscape, the characteristics of work and everyday life in the Marche countryside from the 19th century to the 1960s. The following sharecropping routes are illustrated: oil, wheat, wine, work tools, daily life and other sharecropper activities.
