Over het museum
The National Antiquarium hosts more than thirty inscriptions coming both from the town and the
surrounding area, dating between the Republican and the Late Antique period. This is an
evidence of leading importance for reconstructing the history of the ancient municipium. The
honorary bases, formerly conceived for hosting statues, now lost, were carved with dedications
to the emperors and the more influent personalities in town. Several inscriptions report the
sympathetic dedications of relatives and freed slaves to the beloved passed away. The four
colours of the captions correspond to four different thematic paths.
