Audiotour B. Corridor – Signals and Units

In the long corridor of the museum, the display cases tell the stories of the young soldiers who took part in the Italian Campaign.

An American radio transmitter introduces the story of these men at war.

At Passo del Giogo, only the Americans fought against the Germans — formidable fighters, even if weary and worn. A little further east, from Borgo San Lorenzo to the Adriatic, the British held the front. Here we discover how their units were composed and see some of their equipment.

We then turn to the complex story of the Italians. Until autumn 1943, they were allies of Germany. Then the Royal Italian Army collapsed: most were taken prisoner by the Germans, some immediately sided with the Allies, others chose Mussolini and joined the Republic of Salò, while a smaller number reached the Resistance as partisans.

Next comes the display dedicated to the American military medical service and its field hospitals — a pride of the U.S. Army.

Finally, we visit the nearby reconstruction of a German armoury, filled with weapons and ammunition, machine guns, and Wehrmacht equipment.
