This park with landscape sculptures has a theme from the sun going over the sky as it runs through the day. The light enters into a dramatic dialogue with the sculptures, which means that the decoration is experienced differently at different times of the day and through the changing seasons.
The artists Robert Jacobsen and Jean Clareboudt have created Landscape Sculpture in Tørskind Gravel Pit. It is located here at the southwestern edge of Vejle Ådal. Ådalen's wide, low-lying area is a result of the ice age's meltwater and heavy glaciers.
Vejle river's original meandering course can still be seen by the elm trees, which stood along the river bank.
The area has been inhabited since the Stone Age. There are traces dating back to the 10th century, when the Vikings built the Ravning bridge over the river valley. It can be seen, as a reconstruction of the bridge section, on the north and south sides of the river valley.
Robert Jacobsen and Jean Clareboudt's park with landscape sculptures is owned by Vejle Municipality. The project was part of the cultural promotion Denmark-France in 1987/88. The landscape sculpture was financed by financial means and free services from various funds, companies and private individuals.
After five years of work, the park was inaugurated on July 1, 1991. It was Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort attended the opening. The park has approx. 100,000 visitors.
It is difficult to comprehend the material weight that has created the large landscape works here in Tørskind gravel pit. Now go close and feel the works. Sense how materials and dimensions affect you. Then turn your gaze from the art and over to the nature around you, and then back to the art. The whole thing is a whole.
Enjoy yourself.
