Do you know how Cancun was founded?

Back in 1968 a team from the Bank of Mexico and the now defunct Infratur made an expedition in search of a new tourist destination in the country.

They visited six potential regions in the states of Baja California Sur, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Quintana Roo.

They knew they had found the ideal place when they came upon a number seven shaped islet nestling in the Caribbean Sea with beautiful white sand, lagoons, cenotes and jungle.

The building works commenced with machinery on April 20, 1970, the popularly acknowledged date of Cancun’s founding.

I have lived here for many years!

With the Visionary Rocks monument here in Parque Cancún we want to pay homage to those who dedicated their labor and philanthropy to making Cancun a marvelous place to live and visit.

I will tell you a little about their lives and their contributions. Come with me to discover the story behind each of these names!
