关于博物馆

St Michael's is typically and appealingly English in its setting and it is an adorable small village church in a quiet and idyllic corner.  No wonder Americans built churches near Philadelphia and in South Dakota in imitation of St Michael's, with its perky double bellcote and thatched roof.  Lovers of architecture will admire the superb 13th century double piscina in the south chancel wall, with its two drains set beneath intersecting arches, similar to one in Jesus College Chapel in Cambridge.

The church also has a holy well used until the 1880s for baptisms in the churchyard.  There are also some lovely 13th century painted glass in the windows.

Longstanton lies off the road to Huntingdon about 6 miles to the north west of Cambridge and was split into two parishes, the larger Long Stanton All Saints to the north and the smaller Long Stanton St Michael to the south.  The two may have been seen as distinct by 1086, when the Domesday Book referred to a 'Stantone' and a 'Stantune'.  The two villages were not formally amalgamated until 1953 and the two church parishes were permanently united in 1959 with All Saints which is larger being the parish church.

St Michael's was vested to what is now The Churches Conservation Trust on the 25th June 1975.
