As you pass through this gateway, you leave behind contemporary Marsala and immerse yourself in the memory of the city that came before it: Lilibeo.

The heart of the Archaeological Park beats around the Capo Boeo area, where a significant portion of the ancient city—its houses, walls, and public buildings—has been preserved.

As you explore the Park, notice how the ancient Lilibetans organized their urban space. Thanks to the work of archaeologists, these fragments of ancient life have been brought to light and are ready to tell you their story. To visit the Park, continue with this audio guide; if you prefer to explore the Museum, please switch to the dedicated museum audio guide.

Did you know that this extraordinary site covers a full 28 hectares? Lilibeo’s memory has remained intact because the medieval and modern settlement retreated from the coastline. Fortunately, recent urban expansion did not encroach upon the ancient city. In fact, since the late nineteenth century, Marsala has undergone profound transformations, and only a few fragments of ancient dwellings and necropolises survive—today protected within the Park’s boundaries.

If you wish, beyond the Capo Boeo Park you can also visit the Santa Maria della Grotta complex, the Niccolini Quarry, the Ipogeo Crispia Salvia, the Hellenistic-Roman necropolis on Via del Fante, and the Insulae on Via delle Ninfe.

These sites are now accessible thanks to the collaboration with the young archaeologists of ArcheOfficina. For more information, or to visit the Church of San Giovanni with the Sibyl’s Grotto and the mosaics of the Teatro Impero, please speak with the ticket office staff.

Now it’s your turn to dive into this millennia-old story: let the sea breeze caress you in the Capo Boeo area, marvel at the remains of ancient houses and buildings, and discover Lilibeo!
