Introduction
Welcome to the Żuławy Museum in Nowy Dwór Gdański. This is the best place to start your adventure of exploring the Vistula area in Żuławy. We have collected a considerable number of objects, documents, photographs, and other artifacts related to this region’s past. They will allow you to learn about the history of this extraordinary land, which lies below sea level. For this reason, humans had to learn how to live in harmony with nature here and they have been doing so for centuries. This land is called Little Holland by many. During this tour you’ll find out why.
 
The Żuławy Museum was established in 1994 and from the very beginning it has been run by a group of enthusiastic members of the Friends of Nowy Dwór Gdański Association – Klub Nowodworski. They are the ones who make sure that the old history of the Vistula delta does not become forgotten. They organize many cultural, historical and educational events and strive to present the multicultural and multiethnic past of the region. For many years they have also been cooperating with Dutch organizations for the preservation of Dutch cultural heritage in the Vistula Delta.
 
The museum is currently located on three floors of the Krieg family’s former cheese factory in the Żuławy Historical Park. During the tour, you will learn not only about the characteristics of the Vistula delta region and its past, but you’ll also find out who the Mennonites were and what the similarities are between Żuławy and the Netherlands.
