Central Tramway Company Scarborough
Built in 1881, the Central Tramway Company Scarborough Limited is a Victorian funicular railway on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast.
This heritage funicular railway is an engineering gem on the Yorkshire coast. The Central Tramway's rich history is closely tied to the history of the area. The third cliff railway to be built in Scarborough and notably the oldest surviving cliff tramway company in the country, it now carries nearly 500,000 passengers annually.
Conveniently located in the heart of Scarborough's South Bay, the cliff railway is close to the arcades on the Foreshore Road and the iconic Grand Hotel that dominates the town's skyline. With beautiful views across the bay and a treat for all the family, a day out in Scarborough isn't complete without a ride on this historic funicular.
