Common snapping turtle

The common snapping turtle is distributed from Southeast Canada to Colombia and Ecuador. It inhabits a variety of water bodies preferring areas with muddy bottoms where it willingly digs. In captivity it feeds on mice, rats, fish, chickens and frogs. In July and August, females lay about 30 eggs. Little turtles of the size of 2.5-3 cm hatch after 125 days.
